Forget the usual suspects; these Cheesy Chipotle Black Bean Sliders bring a fresh, exciting, and utterly delicious plant-based option to your holiday table, making them truly unforgettable.

Have you fully recovered from Thanksgiving yet? We’ve just finished off the last of our turkey leftovers, and now my mind is already racing with ideas for Christmas and New Year’s party planning. The holidays are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy good company and even better food, and these sliders fit the bill perfectly for both casual get-togethers and more formal celebrations.

One of my personal goals, particularly as we look towards healthier starts, is to incorporate more vegetarian and vegan meals into my routine. This commitment, much like when I was training for my Ironman a few years back, helps me feel more energized and mindful. While 2017 might not have been the most “mindful” year for my eating habits (we all have those years, right?), there’s no reason to wait until January 1st to begin enjoying lighter, yet incredibly satisfying, dishes.

So, I thought, why wait? My holiday party food can absolutely be both decadent and aligned with my wellness goals. And thus, these incredible Cheesy Chipotle Party Sliders were born. They offer an abundance of richness and layers of bold flavor, but in a vegetarian package that’s so delicious, your guests might not even realize it’s meat-free. The secret ingredient? MorningStar Farms® Chipotle Black Bean Crumbles™.

These crumbles have quickly become my go-to for veggie-based cuisine, and you truly have to taste them to believe their versatility and flavor. For a long time, I struggled to find vegetarian protein sources that could easily integrate into recipes and, more importantly, be accepted—and loved—by my non-vegetarian family members. Many alternatives either lacked flavor, had an odd texture, or tried too hard to mimic meat without quite succeeding. Honestly, I had almost given up trying to “trick” them.

That’s why I am genuinely thrilled with MorningStar Farms® Chipotle Black Bean Crumbles™. What makes them stand out is that they aren’t *trying* to be meat; they are their own fantastic, flavorful entity. Crafted with a delicious blend of bold southwest spices, they offer a satisfying texture and provide a good source of protein, with 8g per serving. This makes them a perfect addition to a balanced, plant-forward diet.

Just as we rely on beans, lentils, and other legumes for protein in vegetarian cooking, these crumbles provide yet another excellent and convenient option. They simplify meal preparation significantly because they require absolutely no pre-cooking or special treatment. Simply incorporate them into your dish “as is,” making them an ideal choice for busy weeknights.

Imagine the possibilities for quick and easy family dinners! Think hearty chili, savory spaghetti sauce, flavorful tacos, or even stuffed bell peppers – you name it. Just toss these convenient crumbles in, and you’ve taken a significant step toward sneaking more delicious vegetables and plant-based protein into your family’s diet. It’s one of those clever culinary tricks that we moms master to ensure our families eat well.

Beyond personal wellness, embracing more plant-based meals also has a profound positive impact on our planet. Let’s not overlook the environmental implications of meat production. For example, replacing just one pound of beef in a meal can save approximately 20,000 gallons of water. This remarkable statistic highlights why there’s no reason to limit meatless meals to just Mondays. We can (and should!) make conscious choices every day. For me, it’s about fostering both personal wellness and a mindful approach to how we consume and impact the world around us. These sliders offer a delicious way to do just that, without compromising on flavor or satisfaction.

It’s another festive favorite that perfectly complements any holiday spread, offering a delightful and simple appetizer that’s sure to impress.

Alright, back to our main event: the Cheesy Chipotle Party Sliders recipe! My goal for this dish was to create fun, flavorful, and truly fantastic party food for the holidays. I’m completely on board with the current slider trend – they’re inherently cute, easy to eat, and universally loved. So, I set out to make them vegetarian (as discussed above) while ensuring they remained incredibly rich, wonderfully gooey, and undeniably cheesy awesome. After all, it’s party food, and it’s the holidays – a time for indulgence and joy!

The preparation for these sliders is surprisingly simple, allowing you more time to enjoy your guests. First, you’ll want to carefully slice your sweet rolls horizontally, creating a top and bottom half. This forms the perfect foundation for our delicious filling.

Next, we prepare the heart of the slider: the creamy, spicy, and satisfying chipotle filling. This comes together by combining softened cream cheese with the star of the show, MorningStar Farms® Chipotle Black Bean Crumbles™. To this, we add finely diced pickled jalapeños for a zesty kick, and chopped sun-dried tomatoes packed in olive oil – a secret ingredient that adds incredible depth and a hint of tangy sweetness. A touch of mayonnaise and Dijon mustard binds everything together, enhancing the creamy texture and adding a subtle tang, finished with a good pinch of kosher salt to balance the flavors. This mixture is a symphony of textures and tastes that truly elevates these sliders.

Once the filling is ready, spread it generously over the bottom halves of your sweet rolls. Then, layer abundant slices of gooey pepperjack cheese, which will melt beautifully and add another layer of flavor and a gentle spice. Finally, cap it all off with the top halves of the rolls. To ensure a golden, buttery crust, we drizzle a mixture of melted unsalted butter, snipped chives for fresh aroma, and poppy seeds for a delightful crunch over the assembled sliders. After a quick bake, first covered with foil to steam and melt the cheese, then uncovered to toast to perfection, you’ll be left with ridiculously creamy, delicious, and utterly irresistible buns.

There is truly everything to love in this recipe – from the ease of preparation to the vibrant flavors and the satisfying textures. These sliders are designed to be hassle-free, allowing you to focus on the joy of the season. They are also incredibly versatile; while perfect for holidays, they make a fantastic addition to game day spreads, potlucks, or any casual get-together.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 12 oz pkg MorningStar Farms® Chipotle Black Bean Crumbles™
  • ¼ cup pickled diced jalapeno
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomato in olive oil chopped
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbs Dijon mustard
  • good pinch kosher salt
  • 2 pkgs sweet rolls 12 rolls each (such as King’s Hawaiian)
  • 12 slices pepperjack cheese
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tsp snipped chives
  • 1 Tbs poppy seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium mixing bowl, lightly whip the softened cream cheese until it’s fluffy. Then, gently stir in the MorningStar Farms® Chipotle Black Bean Crumbles™, pickled diced jalapeño, chopped sun-dried tomato, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and kosher salt. Mix until well combined and set the delicious filling aside.
  • Take your sweet rolls and use a large bread knife to carefully cut across the entire package horizontally, creating a clean top and bottom layer for each set of rolls. This keeps them connected for easier assembly.
  • On a large baking sheet, carefully lay out the bottom halves of the sliced rolls. Evenly spread the black bean crumble mixture over this bread layer. Next, arrange the pepperjack cheese slices over the filling, ensuring good coverage for maximum meltiness. Finally, place the top halves of the rolls back on.
  • In a small bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, snipped fresh chives, and poppy seeds. Drizzle or gently brush this flavorful butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls. This adds a beautiful golden crust and aromatic notes.
  • Bake the sliders, covered loosely with aluminum foil, for 15 minutes at 350°F (175°C). This allows the cheese to melt and the flavors to meld without the tops burning. After 15 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and toasted, and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. Yields approximately 24 individual sliders.

Notes

To make serving easier once cooked, it helps to very loosely separate the rolls slightly before assembly. This way, guests can effortlessly pull apart individual sliders. For a milder flavor, you can reduce the amount of jalapeño or use a less spicy cheese.
